Painting Elephants and Other Animals
Enjoy a two-day watercolour workshop with Hazel Soan, to celebrate her new book “Learn to Paint Wildlife Quickly”. Elephants will be the main subject for the paintings, but the workshop is not really about painting elephants, it is about painting watercolour, using these iconic African animals as a way to explore how form is represented with light and shade and how colours blend and layer to make tertiary greys. The tuition will encompass shape and form, tone and colour, wet-into-wet technique, the properties of pigments and the art of the limited palette, and doubtless more besides as Hazel shares her love of watercolour and her love of elephants! Due to previous demand, the workshop will be repeated twice, if you are interested, please make clear which session you wish to attend.

Weekend Watercolour Workshop
Creating a balanced palette of colours
19th/20th Nov and 26th/27th Nov 2016
Colour choices and colour combinations are the foundation of successful watercolour painting. A well-rounded set of colours in the palette ensures good colour choices at a moment’s notice and makes using a limited number of colours in any one painting easier to ensure.
This workshop is suitable for both practiced artists and beginners. It will cover a variety of watercolour techniques, using the range of colours listed below. The aim is to reinforce good practice and an understanding of colour and pigments. Reference material will be provided.
Schmincke have asked me to create the Hazel Soan Signature Edition palette with their Fine Artist Watercolours, Horadam Aquarell. The result is 8 full pans and 8 half pans in an enamel folding palette which I am delighted to recommend and excited to demonstrate. There is no obligation to use the same brand of colours but if you would like a set, it can be ordered for the workshop.
Suggested colours: Aureolin, Indian Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Sepia Brown, Dark Blue Indigo, Prussian Blue, Cobalt Cerulean, Cobalt Blue Deep, Ultramarine Finest, Mauve, Alizarin Crimson, Ruby Red(Permanent Rose), Cadmium Red Middle.
Venue: The workshop is being held at Hazel’s Studio Gallery in Fulham, just off the Fulham Road in the Parsons Green area.
